Gordon - Got away about 9am after farewells from the neighbors and our house sitter Alberta (who tagged with us to dinner on Saturday night after arriving late Sat to take up the housekeeping duties). Progress was tentative - we took a while to get the van hooked up, first time and all that - but good progress, lunched in Cook Park Orange and spending the night in Tongan's Alamo Motel following dinner at the local RSL (which we're told was really jumping) (about 20 in the dining room).
Morgie - when we had our first stop for lunch we went to a park and kicked the soccer and footy balls around. jack and I started to climb some trees and all the branches were so bendy that if you didn't want to climb all the way back down you found a low enough branch and started to climb down the end of it till you could touch the ground but you don't want to let go of it too early or you will hurt yourself.
Caught up with Dad and his partner Julie the next morning before we continued North and they went South West, reaching Bourke be lunch we decided to push on to Charleville. Got in to find the state school kids football competition in town. Found accommodation about 80km further on in Augathella. Kids suggested driving through the night but with that 80 km of hypervigelence for roos and feral cats was pleased to stop.
Travelling has been surprisingly easy with the kms slipping by quickly and Jack moving into teenage mode with cap and headphones in situ occasionally uttering "sick" and "I'm hungry".
Morg as usual is getting her homework done.
Will spend tomorrow checking out the sites of Longreach weather permitting.
Heaps of roadkill which is not surprising but also many hawks / eagles (not too good at bird identification) about.
