I think it is Thursday

Spent the last two days enjoying the claypans of Longreach van park, quite a good spot, with the Brolgas trying to beg breakfast from you, except you grew two inches getting to the bathroom just because of the mud sticking to your boots. Drizzled pretty much all the time we were there, bunked out this morning in a brief relief from showers and have driven into sunshine in Mt Isa. Despite the rain managed to se the Stockman hall of fame which took most of the day to get through, Jack spent ages watching the whip making display. Got to see sheep mustering, bareback riding and a bullock team at work. Jack has moved into his farmer persona with his riding boots, Akubra and checked shirt, with the occassional chew on a piece of grass but still able to cut it up in the skate park which had a double bowl and all weather cover.

Stopped in at a Dinosaur dig East of Winton which is a private concern in a tin shed up a mud hill similar to Bulli pass but with a negative camber away from the hill, pleased we unhitched as suggested. The place runs mostly on volunteers and fundraising but has 2 newly identified dinosaurs to their name since 2006. Once again more Jack's thing but Morgie has decided she would like to return there to help with the digging some time.

With the sunshine came a change in scenery from flat grass lands where you could see the sheep over a km away as they were the only lump on the horizon to rocky hills covered in trees. So used to driving the gunbarrel that it was a shock to negotiate a long slow curve let alone a hill climb.

In Mt Isa tonight and off to Tenant Creek tomorrow, lucky with the accommodation there as apparently it is their show day, never know Jack may leave wearing chaps and spurs or find himself a new career path instead of professional scooter rider. Off to Katherine from there. Must go as have an early start but it is becoming easier with M&J becoming quite the little nomad even chatting to the grey nomads in the van park, not joined beer o'clock but am sure it won't be long before they get into it.

  1. Hi everyone, Jo's asked me to advise how to make comments. Just click on the "comments" section at the bottom of the page entry. IE it says "0 Comments" or "1 Comments". It will come up with a box that says "Post a Comment". Type what you want in it. Then leave comment as Google Account. This might require you to have a gmail account, I don't know. Incidentally, there's only one "s" in "occasional". Glad to hear all going well. Sydney still cold. Off to Cockatoo Island today. Cheers M
